As you can probably tell, the O’Rourkes are Irish and extremely proud of it. This blanket was a bit of a rush job because Brock was born a month and a half early. But I think it came out very well.

Here’s a close up of the detail. I did the O freehand. I got the shamrock pattern here: http://suzies-yarnie-stuff.blogspot.com/2009/03/my-shamrock-garland-c.html

First, a Gryffindor scarf. All done in half double crochet.

Next, a scarf inspired by a scroll bar. It took me two tries to make it. The first one buckled really badly. This one took a lot longer, but it was worth it.

This is one of my first attempts at jewelry. I took keys off of an old iBook and burned a little hole in each of them with a hot paperclip. The little rainbow beads took a long time, but it was worth it.

Next is my favorite part of the swap. These are little stitch markers, each based on a different spell from RPGs. It was all inspired by the green ring bead on Ultima.

This is a nerdy cross stitch to make her dorm more homey.

And finally the Fairy in a Bottle from Legend of Zelda.

Thanks to oddacity for the pictures!

Nightcrawler Amigurumi

Done for an amigurumi swap, it’s my favorite character from X-men, Nightcrawler. I used a new technique I learned from my last project for the gloves and boots. I also adjusted my regular amigurumi person pattern to have thinner legs. I think it looks better. I’m especially proud of the ears on this guy. They came out exactly how I envisioned. Also, the prehensile tail came out really well. I used dark blue 16 gauge copper wire to give it a poseable quality. I like this little mutant so much, I’m sad to have to give him away.

Front View:

Back View:

Close up of ear:

Here’s a picture of the original comic book art for those who are unfamiliar with this character:

I kept really good track of what I did this time because I want to share his pattern. But unfortunately my pattern looks like this right now:

Keep an eye out for when I eventually translate it. ;D

Zelda Fairy in a Bottle

I just finished this as part of my Geek Chic swap on Craftster. It is a fairy in a bottle from the Super Nintendo game, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I was worried that she would be too big for the bottle, but she came out just small enough to fit. It was kind of hard working from a 16bit screenshot, so I took a little liberty with her.

I used this pattern that I bought on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25100988

I changed it a little so that it went along with my ami style, embroidery floss for hair and beads for eyes. The bottle I found at a thrift store after scouring the city for a corked bottle and coming up with nothing. The tag says, “In case of emergency,” because in the game, the fairy is used for health and if you should die, the fairy will automatically bring you back to life.

Fairy front view outside of bottle:

Fairy back view outside of bottle:

And this is the picture that I worked from:

On a side note, I originally planned to make a fairy in a bottle from the more recent Zelda games (Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess). I have this type of fairy tattooed to my ankle, but it didn’t work out. I couldn’t figure out how to get a glowy effect.

Through Any Window Baby Blanket

My friend is having a baby girl. This is half of her shower gift. I don’t make many blankets, so I’m glad this one came out pretty well. I changed the pattern a little by using a simple shell border instead of an extended picot. I also only used two colors.

Pattern: http://thekidneybean.wordpress.com/crochet-patterns/through-any-window-baby-blanket-coming-soon/

Border

I’m going to make this little sleeper to match: http://www.geocities.com/Crotiques/bgs.htm

We met at a Nine Inch Nails show earlier tonight, and I was frantically working on this up to a half hour before I left for the concert. It is a Piranha Plant from the Mario series of Nintendo games.

Bought the pattern on Etsy and edited it a little mostly because the pattern wanted me to do way too much math. I flattened the pipe a little on the bottom and made a flat pipe rim instead of a tubular one. I also crocheted the spots instead of using felt. It is weighted down with rocks and glass beads leftover from my wedding. The neck has pipe cleaners in it. I also had to add a piece of wire hanger after sewing on the lips to keep it upright. The whole project was done with a 4.5mm hook and Vanna’s Choice yarn.

Completed project:

Front view:

Right side:

Left side:

Shikamaru Amigurumi

My good friend requested this for Christmas. It’s a little late, but it was worth it. This is the fifth ami I have created from my basic people pattern. Personally, I think he is the best. He is based on a ninja from the show, Naruto Shippuden. I used Simply Soft yarn instead of the Vanna’s Choice I usually use to get the color green I wanted. Honestly, I didn’t really like working with it very much and will probably not use it in this kind of project again. As usual, his hair is embroidery thread. On to the pictures! Please excuse the quality. The only camera I have is on my iPhone.

Shikamaru has the power to manipulate shadows, so this display embellishment is a felt interpretation of that:

Here is a front view without the shadows:

Here is the back view:

This is his right side. It’s hard to see in the picture because it’s black on black, but his leg has a kunai pouch on it.

The left side includes the Konoha ninja plate with a leaf insignia. It was the most difficult and least successful part of the project for me.

The vest came out much better than expected even with a slightly wonky zipper. Front view:

The little silver embellishments are just knots:

Here is a close up of the fishnet. It’s size 5 crochet thread sewed directly into the arms and legs. I tried to crochet mesh, but it ended terribly. I’m actually pretty pleased this experiment worked out nicely.

This is the first of my amis that actually got ears. It’s just yarn sewed through the same stitch over an over until it bulked up enough to be considered earlike.

Here is a picture of the original character for those who are unfamiliar with him:

I wrote out a pattern while I was making him, but it is mostly tally marks and shorthand at this point. All the little embellishments are undocumented, so I’m not sure whether or not I should share it.

Soul Eater Amigurumi

My fourth Amigurumi. Soul Eater from the anime Soul Eater. I’m very pleased with how he came out. I feel like each ami is getting better. :)

Here is Soul from the front. (The stand kinda makes him look skinnier in the middle than he actually is.):

Here is the back:

Here is a close up of his shoes. I was worried about them because Soul’s shoes are pretty intricate. They came out alright though.

This is the character my ami is based on in case you haven’t seen the show.

Harry Potter Amigurumi

I made this Harry Potter amigurumi for Kerallyn in our Crafty Teachers Swapon Craftster.

Here he is from the front:

And from behind:

Here is a close up of his face:

A close up of his vest and tie:

And a close up of the little cuffs I made to go under his robe sleeves:

He definitely took a little time. As usual, his hair took the longest since I fringed each individual strand of embroidery thread. I made his basic form from a pattern I wrote while making my first two amigurumi people dolls. I made the embellishments (the robe, sleeves, vest, tie, etc.) as I went.

A Bunch of Old Projects

From the Happy Hooker:

I pretty much just winged it with some chenille and a 6.5mm hook. I like how it came out except that it’s a little big. She loves it anyway.

Claude the Cactus

I made this cute little guy from this pattern:

http://stellarb.wordpress.com/2008/03/03/inspiration/

He is for my 14-year-old cousin, and I am extremely pleased with the way he came out. You can see the green underneath the fuzz much better in person. This was my first amigurumi with fun fur, and I really like the effect. I almost hate to give him away.

Here he is in his little pot:

And here he is all on his own:

It's Hard to Overstate My Satisfaction

I found a sort of pattern for this at 3 o’ clock this morning. I was so inspired, that I stayed up all night making it. I give you, the Weighted Companion Cube from the video game Portal.

My husband is a huge fan of the game, so I surprised him with this when he woke up.

I used this pattern and a 4mm hook for the corner pieces:

http://community.livejournal.com/weloveamigurumi/345733.html#cutid1

and this one (without the white lacy parts of course) with a 3.5mm hook for the hearts:

http://dayna.tdgservices.com/ShowPattern.aspx?PatternID=6

The basic part of the cube is simply 6 squares of 11 rows of 10 sc with a 4mm hook.

After I finished, I filled it with some Saran Wrap full of rice, so it is actually weighted.

Hope everyone likes it! My husband sure did.

Crochet Viking Beanie

I crocheted this beanie as a gift for my grandmother who is a HUGE Minnesota Vikings fan. I bought the pattern from Etsy, and I think it turned out pretty well. I’m a little disappointed in the right horn, but overall, I am pleased.

Sasuke & Naruto Amigurumis

These are the first amigurumi dolls I have made without a pattern. They are from the anime, Naruto. I’m very proud of the way they turned out. Their hair took as long to make as their bodies, but it was worth it. :)

This is Sasuke Uchiha. He was the first one I made.

This is Naruto. I tried to make him the same size as Sasuke, but he ended up being fatter.

And here they are together. They look a lot better sitting down than standing up, I think.
